In the afternoon we will move to Little Petra, the commercial and economic capital of Petra, where the wealthy Nabataeans lived.
Petra, the wonder of the world, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is undoubtedly Jordan’s most precious treasure and greatest tourist attraction. It is a vast and unique city carved out of the sheer rock by the Nabataeans, an industrious Arab people who settled here more than 2,000 years ago.
Their presence made it an important hub for the silk, spice and other trade routes linking China, India and southern Arabia with Egypt, Syria, Greece and Rome. you will visit the outstanding “Rose Red” city of Petra, built by the Arab Nabataeans who carved out their monumental tombs, palaces, temples and treasures from the desert rock sandstone in its natural shades of pink and gold.
Here Steven Spielberg filmed Indiana Jones and the last crusade and from that moment Petra became world famous. We will visit the treasury of Petra and then in the evening watch the movie Indiana Jones with a private screening in the middle of the Wadi Rum desert
Wadi Rum is Jordan’s largest and most beautiful desert landscape, also known as the “Valley of the Moon”. Our team will virtually take you to unexplored valleys where ancient stone inscriptions and Thamudic rock drawings can be seen and Nabataean steps can be found leading to higher places.
Also worth discovering is the Pozzo di Lorenzo, a Nabataean temple, an oasis in the desert and incredible rock bridges. Wherever you look, breathtaking views and a sense of profound calm.
You will take a 4-hour 4×4 jeep tour and visit the locations where The Martian was filmed. The director used the vast landscape of the Wadi Rum desert in Jordan (and the world’s largest soundstage in Budapest) to realistically portray the planet and put his cast (including Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain and Chiwetel Ejiofor) into 80-pound space suits. Says Ridley, “I wanted to get it right — the way Stanley got it right on ‘2001.’ “Lunch in Wadi Rum and return to our tented camp.
Here David Lean shot one of the most famous blockbusters in the history of cinema, winner of 7 Oscars. Lawrence achieved his first important victory on July 6, 1917 with the conquest of the port of Aqaba on the Red Sea. His base of operations from which he departed with the expedition was the desert of Wadi Rum.
In December 1917, now known to everyone as “Lawrence of Arabia” and in command of the Arab contingent, he participated in the triumphal entry of the Anglo-Arab forces into Jerusalem and subsequently in the conquest of Damascus in October 1918 together with General Allenby, head of the British forces in the Middle East.
This was his last major operation, in fact after the war Lawrence experienced a period of restlessness. In fact, in addition to having fought with great pride and having won the trust of the Arabs, he at the same time somewhat ambiguously followed the orders of the British command.
He therefore had strong feelings of guilt when at the Paris Peace Conference in 1919, the Middle East and the Arab peoples were placed at his service by the British and the French.
He was also a very proud and ambitious character and with the desire to spread his own myth, in 1919 Lawrence had begun to write his war memoirs, which were published in 1926 with the title “The Seven Pillars of Wisdom”, the name of a of the most suggestive mountains of Wadi Rum.
The Dead Sea has a vast historical and spiritual legacy. Its surface and shores are 430.5 meters below sea level, the lowest elevation on land on Earth. The waters of the Dead Sea have been known for many centuries as the only place in the world where this particular combination of thermal benefits exists.
The particular solar radiation and climatic conditions, oxygen-enriched atmosphere, mineral-rich sea salt, thermo-mineral springs and mineral-rich mud provide effective medical treatment and therapeutic benefits that attract visitors from all over the world.
In the Dead Sea region, scenes from the film “Zero Dark Thirty” were filmed in 2012, which tells about the last 100 hours of the life of al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.
